Carbon Reduction Plan
Overview
The UK (United Kingdom) Government amended the Climate Change Act 2008 in 2019 by introducing a target of at least a 100% reduction in the net UK carbon account (i.e. reduction of greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990 levels) by 2050. This is otherwise known as the ‘Net Zero’ Target.
Action Note PPN 06/21, “Procurement Policy Note – Taking Account of Carbon Reduction Plans in the procurement of major government contracts,” sets out how to take account of suppliers’ Net Zero Carbon Reduction Plans in the procurement of major government contracts.
This plan outlines Eden Medical's compliance with Action Note PPN 06/21 and carbon reduction performance.
Commitment to acheiving Net Zero
Eden Medical is committed to achieve net zero by 2045 and is working with our customers, suppliers and partners to achieve this.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gasses that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.
Emissions data had not been published in prior years therefore we selected 2022 as our base year. The methodology for measuring our carbon footprint is in line with the Greenhouse Gas protocol and the BEIS Environmental Reporting Guidelines. The calculations were completed on the SmartCarbon Calculator using the UK Government emissions factors.
2022 has been selected as our baseline in the data below. No emissions data was published prior to this in the UK
Current Emissions Reporting
Our emissions data is reported in line with the GHGP Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard under the ‘Operational Control’ approach. Scope 2 emissions are calculated using the GHGP market-based methodology. Per the GHGP, where market-based information is not available, location-based results have been used as proxy.
Scope 3 emissions are calculated primarily using a spend based approach and in line with the GHGP Corporate Accounting and Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Accounting and Reporting Standard.
| Scope | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 |
| 1 - Direct emissions from sources that are controlled or owned by Eden Medical | 25.69 tCO2e | 22.65 tCO2e tCO2e | 19.76 tCO2e tCO2e |
| 2 - Indirect emissions from the purchase of energy | 8.91 tCO2e | 8.23 tCO2e | 7.35 tCO2e |
| 3 - All other indirect emissions including (but not limited to): • Category 4: Upstream transportation and distribution • Category 5: Waste generated in operations • Category 6: Business travel • Category 7: Employee commuting • Category 9: Downstream transportation and distribution | 1,358.49 tCO2e | 1,217.62 tCO2e | 1,188.88 tCO2e |
| Total | 1,393.99 tCO2e | 1,248.50 tCO2e | 1,215.99 tCO2e |
| % Change | Baseline | Reduced by 10% | Reduced by 3% |
Emissions reduction targets
The following are our carbon reduction targets, which are driven by the projects set out in the following section.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease as follows:
To 1,000 tCO2e by 2030, representing a reduction of 28% from baseline emissions.
Then to 700 tCO2e by 2035, representing a reduction of 50% from baseline emissions.
Then to 350 tCO2e by 2040, representing a reduction of 75% from baseline emissions.
Finally to 0 tCO2e by 2045, representing a reduction of 100% from baseline emissions.
